The Prayer Challenge

Women of God, I present to you: The Prayer Challenge

God has placed it on the heart of my church, as well as myself, to pray in the streets. Now before you get the notion that I have completely flown off the handle, let me explain.

Naturally, I am sure your first impression is of a raving lunatic running through the streets yelling, "THE TIME IS NEAR! REPENT!" However, I am disinclined to inform you that this is not the case.

You see, as I take my evening stroll with my husband, we stop on the corner of every street we encounter, and we say a prayer over all of the houses on that street. Those houses aren't just edifices. They are homes, and in those homes there are families, and in families there are individuals with individual souls, leading individual lives. We may not know the condition of their souls, but we do know one thing's for certain; Our God is the discerner of hearts, and He alone is mighty to save.

We pray that God will pierce the flesh of every heart on that street, so that they will know he is God and come to repentance. We then pray for the Lord's Kingdom to come. We believe that this is glorifying to God, and we believe in Jesus' name that it will bring forth results.

One may wonder how we stumbled upon such an idea, but in truth, it is nothing original. The challenge itself can be found in the scriptures.

In Romans 10:1, it says, "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved."

Acts 26:18 says, "To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Furthermore, 1 John 5:14-15 says, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him."

So you see, if we ask for anything according to his will, he hears us. Is it not God's will for all to be saved? In fact, it is! In 2 Peter 3:9 it says, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

How is your prayer life? Have you gone to your prayer closet to spend some alone time with God? A Relationship without communication is dead.

For the busy woman who just can't seem to find the time, remember this: You CAN pray anywhere or anytime. Find a place where you can be alone with God, whether it's the drive to work, when your children are napping, or even while in the shower! God yearns to hear from you. Pray for the lost, that they may come to repentance, and partake in a relationship with us and our heavenly father.

I challenge you to pray in the streets-- make it personal. Pray for each individual home. You can pray while you jog, or even while you're driving on your way to the store. Make the time! God will bless you and answer your prayers.

Jesus can come back to rapture the church at any moment. Will you do your part?
